Dorothy “Dottie” Marie Hassell went home to the Lord on Tuesday, 2/15/2022 after a long term illness. Texas born and raised by parents J.D. Meadors and Ruby Marie “Young” Meadors. Dottie was predeceased by her parents, loving husband Owen Ray Hassell, and Brother James Darrell Meadors.
She married the love of her life, Sonny Hassell on March 8, 1958. They were married 58 years when her sweetheart left for Heaven. Together they raised (4) beautiful & loving children beginning with Ronnie Eskew (wife Beth) of Mart, Texas- Cyndi Sykora (husband Jimmy) of Robinson, Texas – Glenn Ray Hassell (wife Lisa) of Waco, Texas and Debbie Wills (husband Larry) from Bellmead, Texas.
She is survived by all four of her children, her loving sister Reta Kirkland and sister in law Laura Meadors both of Axtell, Texas. And many nieces, nephews and family.
Through the many years of marriage, Dottie became a “NANA” to a herd of Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren beginning with Shea Marie Sykora... two sons Chance & Jaxson, and future daughter in love Kasie. Katina Eskew Pina.. two sons Tyler, Tanner, & daughter Olivia. Dustin Sykora (wife Fallin)...Two daughters Loclyn, Landree and son Ledger. Melodie Hutchison.. 2 daughters Starr, Tristin and son Corbin. Johnnie Hutchison (wife Heather). Cody Hassell (wife Shawnah) & daughter Lyndi. They were also blessed with two bonus grandsons, Brandon Panter and son Hunter, Johnathan Panter (wife Whitney) and daughter Allie.
Dorothy worked and retired after 30 years with Children’s Clinic of Waco where she served as personal physician’s assistant to Dr. Charles Gamble. She loved to dance, cook, can fresh vegetables from the garden, craft, sew, and listening to country music. She and Sonny spent many years camping with their family on Spivey’s Crossing on the Brazos River. Dottie was a longtime member of Oaklawn Baptist Church of Bellmead and a faithful follower of Cornerstone Church and John Hagee ministries in San Antonio, Texas.
We would like to thank Dr. Sosa and Dr. Wolf and all the great nursing staff at Ascension Providence E.R. along with the hospice team, who stepped in to make mom’s last hours of her final life pain free and peaceful. We will miss the great staff at West Rest Haven, especially greeter, Jessica, social worker Laura, nurses Betty & Gracie, nurse’s aide Krystal, and last but not least mom’s roommate Clara Carter, and all her wonderful wing 1 friends.
Pall Bearers for Dottie’s service will be her many grandsons and nephews, she loved so much.
