Dorothy (Blakley) E. Ekvall, 101 yrs., of Robinson, TX, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, at Waco Memorial Park, with Charlie Thomason officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Dorothy was born August 24, 1921, to Mace and Mary Blakley in Gatesville, TX. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1940 and then attended business school in Austin, TX, where she won several penmanship awards. She married Beiner J. Ekvall on October 18, 1943, then moved to Waco. Dorothy went to work at the Selective Service Draft Board office in 1947, where she won an award for designing an improvement that assisted veterans in receiving their benefits. She took time off when her daughter, Linda, was born. She returned to work, retiring in 1976. Dorothy and her family moved to Robinson, TX, in 1978, and it made her so happy that her family still resides there. Dorothy enjoyed playing dominoes, camping, and all of the family meals they shared. She was a Church of Christ member since the age of 11 and attended New Road Church of Christ for many years. Dorothy was greatly loved and will be missed by those who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Ekvall.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Cobbs; granddaughter, Joyce Stocks; great-grandson, Brandon Butts; and niece, Peggy Griffith and her daughters.
