Doris Ruth McKethan

“Ruth” McKethan was born in Limestone County on October 27, 1939, to Lennie and Luther Sandifer. Her beloved sister Sue came along four years later.

Her family later moved to the Waco area where she attended school at Robinson and Lorena. She was a standout basketball player at Lorena High School where she met the love of her life Jerry L. McKethan. She graduated from Lorena High School in 1958 and married Jerry in June of 1958, a marriage that lasted 55 years until his death in March 2014.

For a number of years, she worked as a kindergarten aide at Robinson Elementary School, where she walked out of her back gate and onto the school property each morning, but most of her life was spent happily as a homemaker, wife, Mom, and G-Mom.

She loved Tex-Mex Food, traveling with her husband and Sue, Howard Payne, Baylor and Robinson Rockets Ladies Basketball, and her group of lifelong friends, all Lorena graduates who she regularly dined out with on Friday nights up to three months ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. She leaves behind her sons Darren (Lisa)McKethan and Kevin (Heather) McKethan, grandchildren John-Mark (America) McKethan, Will (Memie) McKethan, Presley (Brandon) Fisk, and Dane McKethan. Finally, her great grandchildren Baker Fisk (2) and Beau Fisk (coming June 2025).

After reuniting with her husband, her parents, and her sister and best friend Sue, her first wishes in heaven will be finding Johnny Cash and a good dachshund.

Honorary pallbearers are John-Mark McKethan, Will McKethan, Dane McKethan, Brandon Fisk, Mike Ellis, Don Grisham, and Ray May.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 2nd from 2:00PM-4:00PM at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be at the Robinson Cemetery on Monday, February 3rd at 11:00 AM.
