Doris King

July 28, 1930 — May 10, 2013

Doris Jean King, 82, departed this life for her heavenly home, after a lengthy illness, on Friday, May 10, 2013, at her home with her family by her side. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May 14, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr. with Rev. Randy Scrivener officiating. A private burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive visitors, Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Doris was born July 28, 1930, to Charles and Naomi Loop in Brownsville, TX. Doris was a resident of Hewitt, TX, for 23 years, previously residing in Nederland, TX, Hope, AR, Lockhart, McAllen, Pearsall, and Brownsville, TX. Doris was a graduate of El Jardin High School, Class of 1947. Prior to marriage, Doris worked for the bank for ten years. After marrying, she was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid card player throughout her life. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Hewitt, TX. She was also active in community organizations including Meals on Wheels and Caritas in Waco, TX. In Hope, AR and Nederland, TX she was involved with the Extension Homemaker’s Club. Doris enjoyed square dancing with her husband beginning in 1982 and continuing through 2007. She enjoyed camping and touring the country with the Heart of Texas Camping Squares and the Chisholm Trail Good Sam’s Club of Temple, TX for many years.
Doris is preceded in death by her infant children, Carol, Jeffery, and Karen; her parents; and her brother, Dale Loop of La Marque.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Lionel Wayne King of Hewitt, TX; her son, Lionel Wayne (Skip) King, II and his wife, Carol, of Luling, TX; her daughter, Laura Jean Fletcher and her husband, Wayne, of Buna, TX; two sisters, Anita Mae Baker of Pearland, TX and Nadine Johnston and her husband, Herb, of Sugarland, TX; two brothers, Charles Edwin Loop and his wife, Kay, of Brownsville, TX, and Leonard Ray Loop and his wife, Debbie, of Brownsville, TX; six grandchildren, Leah and Logan King of Luling, TX, and Ashley Thomas and her husband, Bryan, of Teague, TX, and Macy, Whitney, and Gracie Fletcher of Buna, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Rylee, Layne, and Cheyanne Thomas.
The family wishes to thank all the caregivers of Providence Hospice for their loving and tender care during these difficult times. A special thanks to Michelle, Karen, Debbie, Martin, and Sonya. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger,Waco, TX 76710.
