Donald Wilson

May 16, 1961 — May 17, 2014

Donald Wayne Wilson May 16, 1961----May 17, 2014 Donald (Don) Wilson , 53, of Lorena, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his residence. Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church ,307 E. Center St. Lorena, Tx. 76655. A shining light, my beloved brother, has gone too soon. Don was born May 16, 1961 in Hobart , Oklahoma to Wayne and Barbara Wilson. Don made many lasting friendships in the restaurant business through RESCO Waco. proudly serving the city of Lorena for many years as a volunteer fireman, Don quickly bonded with the other volunteer heroes whom he considered to be a part of his family. This group of dedicated men worked tirelessly through the night as some of the early responders to the tragedy in West.
Don developed a great love for go-kart racing, a sport he proudly shared with his beloved son Chance. Spending many hours at the track, he quickly developed a deep respect for his new " racing" family.
Don lived his life with a strong sense of family, impeccable honesty and in "doing right by others." To borrow a quote from Will Rogers, Donnie too, "never met a man he didn't like." Don was a proud, card-carrying member of the NRA and a tea party activist, as well as a staunch defender of the US Constitution, especially the Second Amendment.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Lori Wilson, his father, Wayne Wilson, and numerous, loving, aunts, uncles & cousins. He is survived by his son Chance, his parents, Chuck and Barbara Cagle of West, his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Joey Horton, his nieces, Ashley and Emily, his stepson Robert Sweeney & Robert's wife Nancy, his stepson Richard Sweeney, numerous, loving, aunts, uncles and cousins, step brothers and sisters, Terri, Sherri, Bippy, Elizabeth, Wayne & Bobby, and a special friend in his life, Dawn Freeman.
If there is a gathering place in heaven, it will look like Smoot Anderson's, and, rest assured, Don will have a big pot of coffee and a hamburger waiting for you when you arrive!
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to a beneficiary account on behalf of Chance Wilson that is being set up through Community Bank & Trust of Waco.
