Don Kniffen of Lorena, TX, passed away on May 25th, 2016. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, at the funeral home.
Don was born on March 6, 1925. He was involved in agriculture all his life. He operated as many as 6 combines on the wheat harvest, traveling from Abilene, TX to as far away as Scobey, MT. He always gave credit to Homer Connel for helping him get started in the business at the age of 20. He spoke of many farmers in many places that he dealt with over the years, but Bud Evans in Colby, KS, was without a doubt his favorite farmer. Don was raised in Clyde, TX, in a large family of six brothers and four sisters. Two brothers, Eugene and Clint still remain.
Don moved to the Waco area about 50 years ago. Farming and harvesting were his main interests in life. He also owned a Case farm dealership at one time, he did quite a bit of custom bulldozing work, and even moved houses and army barracks in his younger years. He owned five different Indian motorcycles in the 30s and 40s. He said many times "I rode motorcycles until I learned better". But his greatest love in life was the Bible and the Church of Christ. He spent many hours of his final years listening to the Bible on CD. He had a great reputation for always being an honest Christian man.
He is survived by his son Malcolm Kniffen of Lorena; two grandchildren, Trevor Kniffen of Clarksville, TN, and Trilby Traylor of Lorena. He is also survived by six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Annilee and by two grandsons, Jory and Reuben.
