David Russell Hixson was born on November 2, 1959 in Waco TX. He spent much of his childhood in Lorena TX. He graduated in May 1979 from Lorena High School. David attended Texas State Technical Institute where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Instrumentation in July 1981. His career started at Johnson Controls in Carrollton TX where he worked at Cape Canaveral in the early 80’s. In August 1984, he began his career at Mary Kay Cosmetics. He retired from there in November 2014, after 30 years of service, as a Sr. Principal Engineer. David’s as able to travel internationally to Germany and China for his MK engineering projects.
David’s first love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When he wasn’t helping coach his son’s sports teams or watching band contests and concerts, he was busy sharing God’s love through personal witness and volunteering. He volunteered at food pantries, Kids Eat Free - a kid’s summer meal program, VBS, served on church committees, and helped organize and volunteer for Amigos - a church ministry to rehab low income homes in Dallas. Additionally, David, and wife Robin were active in many ministries at FUMC The Colony, along with organizations - Robinson Area Lions Club, and Heart of Texas Water Garden and Pond Society.
David’s hobbies included researching genealogy, studying the Bible, playing trivia games, and building maintaining garden ponds and aquariums. He also loved to work on cars, woodworking, and cooking for family and friends.
After battling a lengthy illness, David was welcomed into heaven on June 25, 2020.
David is survived by his wife, Robin, of 39 years; son, Austin Hixson and wife, Claire; son, Aaron (Aeris) Hixson; son, Jeremy Caraway and wife, Patrice; and grandchildren - Elyssa, Zachary, Morgyn, Xander, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his mothers - Janice Zellmer and Elizabeth Henderson; brother, Kenny Murr; and sisters, Cyndy Firquin and husband Sam, and Missy Case, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David’s memorial service is Wednesday July 15, 2020 at 10am at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Freedman officiating. There is a 50 person max at the service. There will be a live stream for out of town family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to one of David’s favorite ministries in his memory.
