Darryl Wayne Smyers passed away Monday February 8, 2016 in Waco, Texas. A memorial service will be held this Friday at 2PM in his honor at the Sun Valley Blvd. Church of Christ with Evangelist Marc Smith officiating.
Darryl was born on August 3, 1943, the son of Pink and Ruby Smyers. Darryl was Valedictorian of Powderly High School and graduated cum laude from Abilene Christian College. He served in the Army and was stationed in Berlin during the cold war. He was also a Dallas Police Officer for 28 years and received the honor of Rookie of the Year. On February 13, 1965, he married Camilla Kay, the daughter of Arthur and Martha Grounds.
Darryl showed his love through acts of service, and there was very little that he could not do. He knew electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing and even some engineering. If he did not know how to do something he would teach himself. He had a huge breadth of knowledge to draw from if you ever had a question about anything. If Darryl ever did anything for you, know that he cared about you.
Darryl is survived by Camilla, his wife and best friend for over 50 years; two sisters, Patsy Upchurch Mullens and Debra Gage; two sons Ron and his wife Lisa of Woodway, TX and Greg and his wife Jennifer of Elizabeth, CO; seven grandchildren: Colton, Caitlyn, Alanna, Victoria, Calvin, Toby, and Sam; and a great-grandchild Jacob.
