Darrell York

April 25, 1957 — November 11, 2022

Darrell (Buster) Louis York, Jr., age 65, of Robinson earned his wings on November 11, 2022 after a courageous battle with heart disease and cancer. Buster was born on April 25, 1957 in Clifton, Texas to Darrell and Jo York. His family will receive visitors on Sunday, November 20, from 2 to 4 PM at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 N. Robinson Dr., Waco. Services will be held Monday, November 21, at 10 AM at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Robinson with Dr. Cary Killough officiating.

He attended Robinson High School and was affectionately known as “Hot Dog” because of his ability to show out, whether it be on the football field, basketball court or the pitcher’s mound. Buster was known in high school for his witty personality and his ability to pitch a “no hitter” baseball game. He was an extremely talented athlete.

In 1974, he started dating Martha Williams, and in February of 1977, at the tender age of 19, he married the love of his life. He truly spent his life making her his top priority and they enjoyed many things together such as traveling, deer hunting, Sunday drives, getting ice cream, fishing in Colorado and spending time with their kids and their pride and joy – grandkids.

After graduation, Buster went to work for a brief time at Bird-Kultgen Ford but found his passion in sales at Darr Equipment where he spent his entire career of 40 plus years. Buster worked in the warehouse, parts, service, sales and rental. He had a very successful career in sales winning “Salesman of the Year” award five times and was also recognized as a distinguished “Go for the Gold” Caterpillar awards program. He had top notch customer service skills and his customers would ask for Buster personally to wait on them. He won many trips before trying his hand in the forklift rental business where again he was highly successful.
Buster was known to talk a little trash on the golf course and enjoyed spending time with friends on the golf course or on the river fishing. He was truly an outdoorsman and always loved to deer hunt and photograph deer. He also enjoyed spending time around the campfire with friends and family.

Buster could fix anything, he always told his girls; “I can fix anything but a broken heart.” His grandkids fondly refer to their PawPaw as their “bestie”. He loved his daughters and grandkids very much and always enjoyed their visits. He introduced the love of the outdoors to Larna and Meredith at an early age taking them to South Fork, Colorado every year and teaching them to fish for trout. They spent many enjoyable hours together in the deer stand as did Martha. Buster was larger than life to his family and there are no words to describe the loss that each of them are feeling. He was the very best husband, father, brother, PawPaw, and friend you could ask for, always willing to help out a family member or friend.

Buster was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Jo York.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha York; two daughters, Larna Blanco and husband Sam and Meredith Redding and husband Cameron both of Robinson, Texas; sister Sue Walker and husband Rocky of Dallas, Texas, sister Rhonda York of Robinson, Texas and brother Clint York and wife Marla of Belton, Texas; granddaughters, Brooklin Barber and Emry Blanco and grandsons Jantzen Blanco, Bobby Jake Redding, Waylon Redding and Rip Redding along with several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Sam Blanco, David McAdams, Cameron Redding, Boyd Williams, Brent Williams, John Williams and Clint York. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Buck Cross of Waco Cardiology and Dr. Jeff Young of Central Texas Cardiovascular.
