Darrell was an only child. His life began January 22, 1967 in Waco, Texas. His parents were Glenn and Florence (Flo) Louise Butler Owen. Darrell grew up in Waco, and graduated from Richfield High School in 1985. He then attended and graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1990. He earned his Master of Arts in Religious Education at Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1995. Darrell’s parents owned the well-known Cupp’s Drive-in on Speight by Baylor. They later opened Flo’s Restaurant where Darrell wore many hats...from bus boy to payroll manager.
Darrell met the love of his life, Kathy René Adler in 1993, and they were married December 10, 1994. He was a people person and enjoyed all ages. At different times, he ministered to children at Western Heights and First Baptist of Eddy, where he was loved and adored. He especially enjoyed children’s camps where he could teach young children about Jesus. He also worked in the gift shop at Providence where he could help people find something special for a sick loved one. One of his favorite jobs was being a coordinator for Meals on Wheels. Darrell always had a heart for helping others and meeting their needs.
He attended First Baptist Hewitt for many years where he was a deacon, sung in the choir, worked in VBS, and got to become very close to his small Bible group. He also enjoyed Bible Study and fellowship with his men’s group “The Slackers”.
Recently, Darrell and Kathy joined Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson where they have enjoyed being a part of the Empty Nester’s Sunday School, and the J.O.Y. Sunday School class. He also loved his three fur babies, Madison, Rusty, and Daphne.
Darrell will be remembered as a loving, compassionate, dedicated, dependable, selfless husband and friend who will be greatly missed.
