Daniel Nowaski, surrounded by his loving family, was called to join our Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m, Wednesday, February 18, at Perry United Methodist Church under direction of Pat Chaney, along with Rev. Jim Newton and Rev. Melissa Graham co-directing. Burial will follow at Perry United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
The youngest of four to parents Dave and Eva Kuzniarec Nowaski, Daniel was born May 4, 1938, in Bremond. He, along with his brothers Bruno, Louis, and sister Florine, began school at St. Mary’s Catholic in Bremond, with Daniel later going to Bremond public school. Daniel was always a worker, beginning in heavy construction. He became a certified electrician for Texas Textile. He owned his own auto mechanic shop and worked for WM Cameron, becoming a representative for Local Union 324. After the mill was closed, he was offered a position in Austin politics, but he returned to the farm he loved.
He met Shirley Ann Webster in September 1956 and proposed in December. They were married September 21, 1957. After living in Waco for 10 years, while running cattle in three counties and living out of suitcases every weekend, they bought a farm in Perry, April 1967. Their son, Jerry Dan, was born in November 1967.
Daniel was president of Millmen Local 324, the Riesel Riding Club, and Perry Water Systems. He traveled with the football boys when his son Jerry Dan was in high school. He helped teach the boys to weld and escorted them to the Houston Fat Stock Show, and was awarded Father of the Year. Daniel loved gardening and he and Jerry Dan were avid deer hunters, spending hours at the lake skiing and fishing. He and Shirley spent many hours on the dance floor and all three of them made many trail rides.
A few years back, Daniel began to withdraw from farming. Upon his family’s insistence, he went to the doctor. He was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, of which there is no cure or treatment. His body began to stiffen, his swallowing labored, and his gait hampered, yet he handled the disease with grace and dignity, which is almost unbearable for most. He continued a positive attitude against all odds.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers.
His memories will continue on with his wife of 57 years, Shirley; son, Jerry Dan and wife Dottie; grandchildren, Justin and Nicholas Allen; sister Florine, and his loving dog, Bear. Pallbearers will be Odis Wayne Webster, Ray Standford, Steven Grote, Tom Morgan, Bobby Dieterich, and Justin Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Grote, Larry Grote, and Nicholas Allen.
He will be missed!!!
