Charlie Goodnight, 74, of Mart, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 13, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Minister Ben Disney officiating.
Charlie was born September 3, 1940, in Wortham Bend, to Sammie Dene and Grace Hanna Goodnight. He graduated from Waco High School and served in the National Guard. On September 2, 1961 he married Donna DeLancey and they were married for 53 years. Charlie worked for Piggly Wiggly for over 20 years as an assistant manager and manager. He also worked in sales with Skinner Macaroni and Keebler Cookie Company. He was owner and operator of Heart of Texas Portable Toilet Services until he sold to Centex Waste Management. He then worked for Waste Management of North America. Charlie also bought and rented houses.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; a sister LaVon Newman and her husband Johnny Newman; brothers-in-law George Lechler and Bernie Bartini.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna; son Charles L. Goodnight and wife Jamie; grandchildren Brandon and Cheyenne; sisters, Wilma Lechler, Jeri Bartini, Tonya Welch and husband Elton, and many nieces and nephews.
Charlie loved watching his grandchildren playing sports so the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Charlie’s name to Mart Panther Club, 700 Navarro, Mart, Texas, 76664.
