Cathryn Owens

September 18, 1927 — July 7, 2014

Cathryn Elizabeth Owens was gathered up into her Heavenly Father’s arms Monday, July 7, 2014. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 11 at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Cathryn was born in Kyle to Hazel (Stanaland) Owens and Robert Leslie Owens, Sr. She was the eldest of three children and grew up in San Antonio. Growing up she was active in Girl Scouts and later entertained with the USO during WWII. She graduated from Harlandale High School and attended Temple Junior College.
She married Don Hesskew in 1950 and two children were born into this union. She married Fritz Grohoske in 1962. They moved to Marlin and had one daughter. Cathryn moved to Robinson about 15 years later. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, and was an avid genealogist, having traced her family tree to the Isle of White. Joseph Owens sailed with his family from Milton, Florida to Indianola, Texas, on his own ship, The Darlington, in 1870. Her great-grandfather Parham T. Hall, fought in the Confederacy and his brother, Texas Ranger Hiram Metcalf Hall was killed in 1839 at Bird Creek Battle in Bell County by Buffalo Hump and his tribe, and is listed in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. Her third cousin was county music legend Buck Owens.
Cathryn was preceded in death by her son, Robert “Bobby“ Hesskew; her parents; stepfather, Martin Stevenson; and her brother, Robert Leslie Owens, Jr.
Cathryn is survived by her daughters, Donna Stimmel and her husband Terry and Gretchel Campbell. She was Granny to Robin Archambeau, Misty Hollandsworth, Heather Hesskew, and “Little” Cate Campbell. Her great-grandchildren, Brendan, Amber, Lexi, and Tye called her little Granny. She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Edwards; sister in law Sylvia Owens; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge Bluebonnet Hospice, especially, Krystal Price and Mollie Oleary for their loving care of our Mom.
