Today we are remembering the life of a dear soul, Anna Carline Maybin, of Robinson, Texas. Her body surrendered to the culprit ALS at the age of 68 at her home of 39 years in Robinson with her husband and family surrounding her on March 23, 2017 at 3:25 a.m. While her body lost her battle with ALS, her soul resides in heaven with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in accordance with Romans 10:9 “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Carline’s life began May 5, 1948 in Fort Hood, Texas when parents Bob Brashear and Catherine Squires Brashear and older brother Bob Brashear Jr. welcomed her into this world. She grew up in Central Texas, mostly in Robinson, and attended almost exclusively Robinson schools, being a part of one of the first classes to ever graduate from the new high school. Many of her childhood activities revolved around church, music and singing. That trend would continue until her death. As a kid, she was very involved in the First Baptist Church of Robinson and with the school choirs.
Following graduation, Carline attended 4C Business School in Waco, TX. After completing the one-year program there, she used the skills acquired to obtain her first job at Texas Farm Bureau. She worked at various places in Waco and Robinson including Robinson ISD, Region 12 Education Service Center and Curves. She was very active in Meadowbrook Baptist Church starting in 1970. She went on several mission trips around the world and could always be found singing in the choir and giving her boys the evil eye as they misbehaved in the congregation.
Her life’s soul mate was found March 28, 1967 when a blind date introduced her to Wade Maybin of Hendersonville, North Carolina. By July of that year they were engaged and they were married in First Baptist Church of Robinson November 24, 1967. Their 50-year relationship brought them a large and loving family, starting with 3 sons, Cale (1971), Russell (1974) and Bradley (1976) which translated into 15 grandkids. They built a life together, hosting soccer and baseball practices and thousands of pickup football games on their 5 acres on Woodcock street in Robinson. Hundreds of kids can claim their athletic prowess was founded in the Maybin back 40, including NFL players and Division 1 college athletes.
Carline administered many wooden spoon “blessings of encouragement” to her kids and several others that needed some encouragement as well. Hundreds of Robinson students looked upon her as a motherly influence and had been “adopted” into the Maybin family. Many would come by the office just to speak with her or get some words of wisdom. Dozens of people can claim they lived at least for a short time in the Maybin home and were treated like family by Carline. Her life revolved around loving on her kids and grandkids, attending events around the state and around the nation to support her family.
Carline was survived by her father, Bob Brashear, of Robinson, brother, Bob Jr. and his wife Edie, of Jacksonville, TX, sisters-in-law Wanda Oliver (special caretaker for the last 6 months) of Hendersonville, NC and Colleen Maybin of Hendersonville, NC and her loving husband Wade Maybin. She leaves behind her 3 sons and their wives Teresa, Elizabeth and Emily and her 15 grandkids: Chelsea, Jarrayd, Madison, Mallory, Camden, Parker, Tate, Brock, Kellen, Harrison, Brindley and Tatum Maybin and Baylee and Jonah Martin and great granddaughter, Scarlet. Her nieces and nephews in Texas and North Carolina also survive her; as well as numerous cousins and several aunts and uncles.
