Calvin was born to Thomas and Emily “Catron” Linkous on March 11, 1924 in Sulphur, OK (which was known as Indian Territory). He was raised in the Riesel, Hallsburg and Axtell area. Calvin was married to Emma Louise Pate Linkous for 54 years. They moved to Lacy Lakeview in 1962 where they raised their 4 children. He graduated early from Axtell with a GED so that he could join the military. During this battle he was wounded and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Medal and 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Military Achievement Medal, Victory Medal, and 2 Medals from France, one being the Croix De Guerre. Upon his release he then joined the US Navy where he was stationed at a naval shipyard in Hunters Point, CA. He was discharged from the military in 1949. Calvin then went to work for the VA Hospital where he worked nights, and also owned his own business where he mowed yards and cut trees during the day. Calvin retired from the VA Hospital in 1984, but continued working his yard business until 2010 when his nephew Mike Linkous took over.
