Winfred “Bud” Thomas, 97, of Robinson, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Brother Buddy Sipe officiating. Burial will follow at Mooreville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 5 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, at the funeral home.
Bud was born April 12, 1917, in Moffat, to Winfield Scott and Ollie Thomas. Bud proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. While in the service, Bud worked as an ambulance driver and performed many other duties as called upon for his service brothers. On May 5, 1973, Bud married Mary Helen Hopper and her daughters, Carol and Donna. For 42 years they followed Bud’s passions of fiddle playing, farming, ranching, and traveling. Bud was a member of First Baptist Church of Robinson, Z.S. Teague Moody Lodge #568, and VFW Post # 6008 Hewitt. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and spending time with his granddaughter.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Ollie Thomas; his sisters, Edna Mae, Linnie, Marie, Ethel, Dathiene, Wilma, and Billie Fay; and his brother James (J.W.) Thomas.
Bud is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Thomas; daughters Carol Ann Wisdom, and Donna Marie Heese and husband Kenneth; grandsons Steven Wisdom, Bobby Wisdom, and Robert Heese; granddaughter Helen Heese; sister-in-law Thelma; and his dear friends Alton and Betty Tobias.
Pallbearers will be Martin Heese, Bobby Hopper, Jim Gilmore, Carroll Huber, Randy Middleton, and Richard Elliott.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Nick Schwedock, the nursing staff and volunteers at Providence Hospice Center for their care, compassion and many acts of kindness during their difficult time.
