Billy Walker, 91, of Robinson, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Sunday April 27, 2014. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Robinson, with Pastor Michael Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Prairie Cemetery, in Personville, Texas. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr.
Billy was born August 27, 1922 in the farming community of Victoria just outside of Mart, Texas. He was the 5th of five sons born to Walter Thomas and Ira Lee Walker. Billy attended Mart High school where he excelled in both football and track. He was inducted into the Army, February 24, 1943 where he served as a Sergeant, Company B, 648th Tank Destroyer Battalion until his honorable discharge April 1, 1946. He was in campaigns in Rhineland and Central Europe, and was a co-recipient of the French Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star, known as the Cross of War, an award given by the French Government for valor. After the war, he returned home where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Margie Samford Walker. They were married for 67 years. Billy worked at General Tire and Rubber company for 38 years before retiring. He loved to drive so after retirement he did car swaps for Rountree Motors for several years. Billy was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he and Margie would travel all over Texas watching the kids and grandkids playing sports and performing in activities.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margie; his parents, Walter and Ira Walker; brothers, Rayford, Lyston, Lanyce, and Charles Walker.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Maddux and husband, Ron, of Fredericksburg, Sandy Hahn and husband, Henry of Watt; grandchildren, Heather Lopez, of Austin, Marcy Ward and husband, Mark of Fredericksburg, Bradley Kaminsky and wife, Monica, Billy Crawford and wife, Victoria of San Antonio; great grandchildren, Chelsey Stewart and husband, Chase, Madi Lopez, Sadie Lopez, Zuzu Ward, Walker Ward all of Fredericksburg, Morgan Stafford of San Angelo, Taylor Stafford, Zach Stafford, Riley Stafford and Harley Stafford of San Antonio; one great great grandchild, Caiden Stewart of Fredericksburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
