Billy Joe Smith

Billy Joe Smith was born January 10, 1938 in Hewitt, Texas. On December 1, 2023 he went to be with his Lord at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 7 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco with Pastors Chris Sammons, Roy Marshall, and Robert Buchanan officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Waco Memorial Park. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6 at the funeral home.

Billy Joe was active in his community. He served 17 years as a City Councilman and 39 years as a volunteer fireman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hewitt. He loved his Sunday school class. He drove trucks most of his life. Billy Joe purchased a dump truck and enjoyed working for himself.

He graduated from Midway High School in 1956. In 1957, he married Betty, the love of his life. They have been married for 66 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mae Smith; infant son; brothers, Perry Smith and wife Pat, and Bob Smith.

Billy Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Smith; daughter Karen Wilson (Chris); and son, Jeff Smith; grandchildren, Krystal (Brian), Jonathan, Justin, Kendall (Blake); great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Hayden and Alyanah.
