Betty Marie Cameron was born February 22, 1929 in a blizzard in Erie North Dakota to Ellen and Ralph. She graduated from Ayr High School where she and her sister Marilyn were on a state championship basketball team and thereafter Sisters of St. Joseph diploma program in nursing (Valedictorian).
She moved to California to work, and met and married Lee Chase in 1953. They had five children together, Kathleen (Chip), Nancy (Terry), Steven, Bradley (Ann Marie) and Cameron. She has thirteen grandchildren: Matthew, Robert, Chase, Clayton, Laura, Madison, Preslee, Mark, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Christa, Jessica and Emily & six great grandchildren; Jameson, Jax, Cash, Cameron, Cooper and Jack.
Betty graduated from Texas Women’s University with a Masters in Nursing Education and taught at Brevard Community College and University of Central Florida (Go Knights!). Betty was one of the founding faculty members in the UCF nursing program.
Betty retired in 1988, married Jack Peach, and they spent 6 months in North Dakota and 6 months in Florida. They traveled extensively being most fond of New Zealand, Australia and Scottland. Jack died in 2007 leaving daughters: Robbin, Janis, Susan and Jackie with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her three siblings- Kenny, Stuart and Gail.
Betty remained active in her retirement years assisting with various church programs and attended bible studies, her Curves and community center exercise classes and frequent walks along the beach and roadways often leaving the younger and more “able” in her wake. Betty set the bar high in life often challenging others to do better and try harder. She loved her liver and onions…and a glass of wine.
The family thanks Living Springs Village and Bluebonnet Health Services-Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. They have set up two sites for those who wish to donate in her memory, one for the Bluebonnet Health Services- Hospice and the other for a scholarship in nursing at the University of Central Florida. Links for both sites are included below.
Services will be held for Betty this summer in North Dakota for her extended family and friends.
