Betty Mayes

Betty Ruth Mayes, 66, of Bruceville, TX, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. She was born December 4, 1956, in Sardis, Mississippi, to Sidney and Annie (Hall) Hughes. Betty was full of life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling with her family and was always ready to karaoke at her son’s house. Betty was full of compassion and loved helping others. She was always there for anyone in need. She volunteered at Shepherd's Heart of Lorena food panty for many years. Her compassion extended to animals of all kinds including cows, chickens, and goats that she cared for at her house. More than anything, Betty loved her family, and she spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wayne Mayes; and her parents, Sidney and Annie Hughes.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Brewer and husband Winson, along with their children Glenn, Adam, Jeffrey, Zach, Brice, & Zoey; son, Chris Bailey and wife Brandy, along with their children Bailey, Brock, Emma, CJ, Blaine, Zach, & Addison; her siblings, Ann McDowell, Danny Hughes, Norman Hughes, Donna Crane and Sandra Bright; great-grandchildren, Madison, Kyran, Mickey, and Cora; along with many other family members and friends.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, at First Baptist Church Lorena, 307 Center St, Lorena, TX, with Pastor Heath Kirkwood officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery.
