Betty Johnston

Betty J. Johnston ,79 of Waco, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday November 5, 2013. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. with funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, at Pecan Grove F.H. 3124 Robinson Drive, with the Rev. Wayne Blackshear officiating. She was born November 19, 1933 in Waco, Texas, to Harold and Thelma Shumate. She married Reed E. Johnston, who was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base, on April 30, 1951. She was a homemaker, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved sewing, knitting, making dolls and afghans, painting, and reading her Bible. Betty was an active member of Primrose Drive Baptist Church. Her hugs and smiles will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold (Bud) Shumate.
Cherishing her memories are her survivors: Reed E. Johnston, husband of sixty two years; sons Reed Johnston, III and wife, Cindy, of Waynesboro, Virginia, Charles Johnston and wife, Mary, of Ft. Worth, Texas, John Johnston and wife, Sherre, of Lorena, Texas, Dana Johnston and wife, Jan, of Lockhart, Texas, Clint Johnston and wife, Tiffany, of Hewitt, Texas; brothers Don Shumate and wife, Judy, of Waco, Texas, Connie Shumate and wife, Carolyn, of Norman, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren: Sherry Hamons and husband, Brian, of Cleveland, Tennessee, Julie Johnston of San Antonio, Texas, Grace Potts of Ft. Worth, Texas, Vera Johnston of Lewisville, Texas, Elliott Johnston of Ft. Worth, Texas, Taylor Johnston of Waco, Texas, Paige Johnston of Lorena, Texas, Benjamin Johnston of Lorena, Texas, Niki Johnston of Waco, Texas, Dana (Doodles) Johnston of Austin, Texas, Reed (R. E.)Johnston of Lubbock, Texas, Daniel Johnston of Bangkok, Thailand, Seth Wright, of Lockhart TX, Brittany Gohring and husband, Stephen, of China Springs, Texas, Brooklyn Johnston of Hewitt, Texas; nine great-grandchildren: Abigail, Gavin, Gage, and Savannah Hamons of Cleveland, Tennessee, Elizabeth Johnston of Ft. Worth, Texas, Aaron Potts of Houston, Texas, Chandler and Harrison Gohring of China Springs, Texas, Scarlett Johnston of Hewitt, Texas.
The family has a deep heartfelt appreciation to Dr. McFadden and the staff of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
