Betty Jean (Melton) Bryant, 88, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018 surrounded by her family. A graveside service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 31st at Restland Cemetery, N. 22nd St, Gatesville, with Edward Schaub officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 30th at Gatesville Church of Christ, 2417 E. Main St., Gatesville. Services are under the direction of Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Betty was born November 26, 1929 to James Edward and Charlotte Lee (Ashby) Melton in Levita, Texas. She graduated from Oglesby High School in 1947 and immediately enrolled in the Nurses Aide training program at Gatesville Hospital. Betty married J.T. Bryant on May 2, 1948 in Temple, Texas. She enjoyed helping others as a nurses aide, but her true calling was taking care of everyone around her as a lifelong homemaker. Betty was a longtime resident of Gatesville and a faithful member of Gatesville Church of Christ. She loved the Lord and studied His Word daily. Betty was a great encourager and example for her family and friends. She was a Momma and Memaw that will be remembered for her soft, sweet tone and her homemade pies.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Betty is survived by her husband of 70 years, J.T. Bryant; children, Donna Cranfill and husband Bill, John Bryant and wife Meagan; grandchildren, Kristi Braly and husband Wade, Karen Robbins and husband Mark, Amy Stewart and husband Chris, Karla Swanson and husband Jeff, Amber Innerarity and husband Matt; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel Bundrant; brother, Bill Melton and wife Patsy; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty’s family would like to thank Hillside Nursing and Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care and kindness.
