Bernice Perry, 102, of Robinson, TX, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 7, at Robinson Cemetery, 620 E. Stegall Drive, Robinson, TX, with Pastor Micheal Moore officiating. Bernice will be available for viewing 30 minutes prior to the service, beginning at 9:30, at the cemetery. A visitation with family and friends will be Friday, August 6, from 6 – 8:00 p.m., at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Bernice was born December 25, 1918, in Hico, TX, to George and Nora (Waldrip) Oxley. She married Clyde Hoyt Perry in November 1936. Bernice worked in the cafeteria at Robinson ISD for a short time and went on to work as a dietician at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center until she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Robinson for 71 years, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School; she also enjoyed participating in the Golden Age group at the church. Family was so important to Bernice. She was involved in all that her kids and grandchildren did and loved the times they were all able to be together. After Bernice and Hoyt retired, they enjoyed traveling in their RV, especially going to listen to bluegrass bands. She enjoyed tending to her garden and sitting in her swing with her long-time neighbor, Marian Garmon. Bernice lived her last eight years at Regent Care Center in Woodway. She loved living there and considered those that worked there and lived there her extended family.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Perry; her parents; sons-in-law, Punkin Redding and Robert “Bobby” Atkinson; brother, Artie Oxley; and sister, Lucille Davis.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Redding, Judy Atkinson, Sammy Perry and wife Linda, and Ronnie Perry and wife Sharon; her grandchildren, Tammy McKee and husband Randy, Mike Redding and wife Leslie, Tracy Warrick and husband Jeff, Robby Atkinson, Kevin Atkinson and wife Genelle, Gerald Perry and wife Michelle, Chris Perry and wife Shanna, and Shana Kaase; 19 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Regent Care Center and Compassus Hospice for the loving care given to Bernice.
