Anita Gonzalez Medina, 91, of Waco, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Hillcrest Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday evening, January 2 from6-8 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco, Texas. Memorial service will be held at El Calvario Presbyterian Church, 2222 Dutton St., Waco, on Friday, January 3 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Anita was born March 28, 1922 in San Antonio, to Maria Magdalena DeLeon, adopted by Julio Gonzalez and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended school in Fort Worth before marrying Marcelino Medina Sr. on April 19, 1943, who later preceded her in death on May 15, 1985. After moving to Waco, she was a homemaker and was employed at Buchanan’s Laundry.
A Presbyterian to the core, she was nurtured in faith and life during her early years at Gethsemane Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, where she accepted Christ at a very young age. After moving to Waco, she joined the El Calvario Presbyterian Church, where she was a was a beloved member for 57 years. A lifelong animal lover, Anita always had at least one dog, and would report abuse of animals to the police.
She is survived by sons Marcelino Medina Jr of Waco and Rueben Medina and Wendi of Burleson; niece Sarah Vigil and husband Joe; three nephews: Constancio, John and wife Connie, and Jesse and wife Eva; a sister-in-law, Manuella, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a host of friends and Max, her canine companion.
Pallbearers will include John Medina, Ricardo Santillan, Dennis Carrizales Jr., Ralph Carrizales, Richard Gonzales and Wyndell Jones.
