Alvis Gene Roberts 76, of Lott, Texas, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 14, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Dr. Cary Killough officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 5 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, at the funeral home.
Gene, as he was affectionately known, was born in Kosse, Texas to Wilma Bray Murphee and Felix Roberts. He grew up around the Central Texas area and graduated from Waco High School. He was a member of Plumber and Pipefitters Local Union 529 in Waco, Texas for over 50 years.
Gene was an avid fisherman and a devoted golfer. He made lifelong friendships on the golf course, as he was a member of the Senior League of the Lake Waco Golf Club and Battle Lake Golf course.
He is preceded in death by his mother Wilma Murphee, father Felix Roberts and brother Freddie Roberts.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Panzy Aman Roberts; three sisters, Brenda Killough and husband James of Bruceville, TX, Shirley Phillips and husband Bill of Modesto, CA, and Estelle Tolivar and husband Pat of St. Augustine, TX. He is also survived by his children John Roberts and girlfriend Sara Fraijo of Fresno, CA; Kelly Valdez of Rosebud, TX, Gene Allen Roberts and wife Valerie of Waco, TX, Jeff Randall and wife Lisa of Eldon, MO, Gina Randall and husband David Taylor of Austin, TX, Dee Ann Smith and husband Mike of Aquilla, TX, and Kim Rhodes and husband Steve of Austin, TX; 15 grandkids; six great-grandkids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene will be remembered as a hardworking, trustworthy and honest man who instilled all those attributes in his children and grandchildren. He was a man who loved God and his family.
Pallbearers will be Jonathon Valdez, Blake Bowdish, Dylan Abel, Travis Palu, Justin Jordan, and Coy Miller. Honorary bearers will be members of the Senior League Golf Club.
