Alvin Leo Niekamp, 81, died peacefully with his loving family by his side Thursday, April 23, 2015. Visitation will be Monday, April 27, 2015, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Rosary to follow. Funeral mass will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellmead. Burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park in Waco.
Alvin was born February 20, 1934 in Lott, TX to Annie and John Henry Niekamp. The family moved to Riesel where Alvin graduated high school in 1952. On June 1, 1957, he married Ella Mae Hefelfinger.
Alvin worked for Hammond Industries, Marathon Battery and eventually retired from Trane. After retirement, he worked for Callan Equipment where he had many fond memories. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and John Henry Niekamp, brothers, Robert, Andrew, Anton and Raymond, sisters Ida and Mary.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ella Mae, daughters Deborah Person and husband Randal of Riesel, Patricia Crow and fiancée Allen Hueston of Waco, son Kenneth Niekamp and wife Brenda of Riesel, grandsons, Jeremy and Corbin Niekamp, Gared and Dylon Person, and Landan and Davey Durham, great-grandson Trevor Person, and great-granddaughter Kaizlee Person who will miss and lovingly remember their Papaw, sister Irene and husband James of DeSoto, and sister Dorthy of Windsor, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin’s happiest times were spent at the family’s fish fries, barbeques and especially watching his grandchildren’s football and baseball games. He will be greatly missed by family and his many friends.
He and Ella Mae were life-long members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellmead.
