Alton Edward Tobias, 71, of Mooreville was called to Heaven on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Temple, Texas. A Memorial Celebration of Alton’s Life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Mooreville United Methodist Church, with Pastors Lynn Starnes and Don Johnson officiating. A family burial service will follow at a later date at the Mooreville Cemetery.
Alton was born March 27, 1943 in Marlin, Texas to Gene and Helen Tobias. He attended Marlin schools before enlisting in the United States Army in 1965. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge in 1968, he married Betty Lou Habel.
Alton was employed with Western Auto in Marlin for over 35 years where many friendships were formed. He was a member of the Chilton Masonic Lodge where he served as Grand Master. He attended the Mooreville United Methodist Church and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening. Spending time with his grandkids was also one of his favorite things.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Helen Tobias; brothers, Curtis and Jay Tobias; and a sister, Sandra Tobias. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Tobias of Mooreville; daughters, Carrie Pruitt and husband Donald and Katie Tobias, all of Mooreville. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Zack and Chloe Pruitt, who were his pride and joy; brothers, Gary, Tom, Mike and Perry; sisters, Barbara, Sherry, Kay and Liz; as well as other extended family members and special friends, Mary Jane and Carroll Huber of Mooreville.
The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at the Community Living Center on the Hero’s Haven floor at the Temple VA for the outstanding care provided. Memorials in Alton’s name may be made to the Mooreville United Methodist Church or the Mooreville Cemetery Association.
