Mercile was born July 5th, 1941, in Jamestown Louisiana, to Alfred Marcel “Jack” Streeter and Flora Christine “Jo” Streeter. Mercile was the oldest of four and a natural born leader. Mercile went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from McNeese University. She started her teaching career in Cameron, Louisiana where she later moved to Waco and continued her teaching career at Crestview elementary and it was there, she retired with over 30 years of service. Mercile also held the title of President of the Teachers Union of Waco. To Mercile education was very important, from teaching it to instilling the phrase, “knowledge is power, and knowledge is something that no one can ever take away from you.” Not only an educator, Mercile loved to garden and if you had just a moment, she would walk you around her fresh vegetable garden where she would often pick food off the vine, and head straight into the kitchen to use it in a recipe. She also loved talks surrounded by her Koi fishpond in her back yard. A devoted Christian Mercile had a bible verse for any moment, and you would know from then on out everything was going to be okay. Mercile was also known for her Thanksgiving dinners and there was never any question about where we would be eating, during that time her house would be full of laughter and the smells of an amazing feast.
Mercile married her love of her life Max Duggan on December 26,1969 and had a only son Jason Duggan. Mercile loved being a mother more than anything and when she gained the title of grandmother her smile got even bigger. Mercile loved with all her might, and we loved her with all of ours.
