Abbie Mae Huhn 91, of Waco passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at a local nursing home. Services will be 11 AM Saturday November 7th 2009 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr with Pastor David Hunter and Pastor Steve Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Friday November 6th from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Abbie Mae was born in Robinson, Texas, on March 23, 1918, to Benton Jones and Lizzie Mae Smith Jones. She was a long-time member of the Columbus Ave. Church of Christ and more recently , a member of the Robinson Church of Christ. For many years Abbie worked as a sales clerk for different stores, Monnigs, Woolworth, and McCrorys. She finally worked at Montgomery Wards Co. until she retired, after twenty-five years of service. On June 01, 1943, she married the love of her life, Elie Q. Huhn, in Robinson, Texas and they lived in Robinson until his death. Abbie loved to cook, especially baking, sewing , flowers and “spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren”. Everyone in town called her “Mamaw”, even the neighborhood kids. She was loved and will be missed by all.
Abbie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-two years, Elie Q. Huhn, Sr.; sister, Lois Hollowell and brother, Bill Jones.
She is survived by her daughters, Abbie Jean Markum and husband, David of Pearland, and Delores Ann Clark and husband, Mark of Robinson; son, Elie Huhn, Jr., and wife Charlotte also of Robinson; grandchildren, Jeff Markum, Becky Martinka, Debra Vahrenkamp, Peggy Riddle, Dwayne Horton and Reba Huhn; great grandchildren, PVT. Brandon Martinka, stationed in Hawaii, Brittany Martinka, Brianna Martinka, Brooke Martinka, Lindsey Sowder, Jacob Sowder, Randy Riddle, Mark Riddle, Coby Markum, Alex Markum, Chloe Horton and Daylen Horton; sister, Fayrene McQueen of Waco, and a large extended family.
Pall bearers include, Bobby Smith, John Simons, Randy Riddle, Coby Markum, Jeff Markum and Jacob Sowder; honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff at Station 1, at Ridgecrest Retirement Center.
