AB Holmes, 78, of Waco, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014. Funeral services will be 1PM, Saturday, August 16, 2014, at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Dewey Pickney Drive. Visitation with the family will be Friday, August, 15 from 6PM to 8PM at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Deacon AB Holmes was born June 13, 1936, to Celeste and Bettsy Tucker Holmes in Asa, Texas. At an early age AB accepted the Lord as his Savior at Mount Olive Baptist Church. He attended elementary school in Satin and high school in Downsville. Bro. Holmes loved the Lord and he loved his family. AB worked at Union Pacific Rail Road for 32 years.
In later years he united with St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Larry Courtney where he was ordained as a Deacon. His favorite song was Time has Made a Change in Me. His hobbies were cooking, playing dominos, and fishing. AB was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, T.C. Cotton, Donald Ray Cotton, William Holmes, and Asa Holmes; and a sister, Leslie Ruth.
AB leaves to cherish his memory his long loving and devoted wife, Karen Holmes; two sisters, Mrs. Lorene Johnson of Houston and Gladys Webster of Hewitt; two brothers, Lawrence (Pearlie) Holmes of Ft. Worth and Alvin Cotton and wife Iris of Robinson; his children, Greg Holmes and wife Shannon, Barbara Holmes, Lance Holmes, Tanya Loud and husband Rosevelt, Eddie Bohannan, Jermane Walker, Latrina Walker, Eric Walker, A.J. Jefferson, and Jackie Burns; brother in law Clarence Wiley; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby Soukup, Virginia Simmon, Billy Cheetum, Wanda Walker, Leann Nichols, and Jene Degrate.
Pallbearers will be Henry Tucker, Terry Ridge, Byron Horn, Clifford Horn, Donual Smith, Calvin Hawkins, Greg Taylor, and Carl Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Manigo, Carl Kirkpatrick, William Lovelace, George Howard, Michael Roberts, James Douglas, Gavis Shelton, Harvey Griggs, and Anthony Hawkins
