Mike and I were childhood friends, and we had many adventures camping. We built a cabin (slash) clubhouse behind our home and spent MANY nights hanging out with the neighborhood crew (Mike, David, Nathen, Scott, and myself Brian). It would be difficult to put a number on all of our camping adventures, but it would be in the hundreds for sure. Still to this day that is my most fondest memories of my youth is camping with my buddies. He loved the deer lease and that was his favorite place to be. And to this day the woods is my favorite place to be.
Now as far as the car, and motorcycle craze we all had as a young adults, we ALL had the need for speed. And it is a miracle we came out in one piece and a few times...... well the cars didn't make it. Scott, Dale, Mike, Nathen, Jeff and Myself had some real mechanical classics that would be worth a fortune if they were still around. One of the fondest memories was a late night road racing with a car packed to the gills with too many people and testosterone, at speeds... well let's just say a tad over the limit. One of our favorite places for speed runs was the back road to Downsville and the Lake Waco twin bridges. And cruising the valley was the real deal in the early 80s. And the illegal drag strip at Spiegleville was a site to see.
And as a young adult in TX, you know you have access to firearms, and gunpowder. Ah nothing like making your own firecrackers and we will leave it at that. BOOM...we made some really good firecrackers. BOOM. And we still have most of our fingers but lost a little hearing.
We all had a love of good rock music and when I listen to my old record collection, It's hard not to listen to some of those old records and not think about all of those times long ago. Music by campfire, and the tape deck blaring as you go gown the road. Mike I hope in the next world you have a mean old car, probably pieced together from several classics, and the tape deck blaring. Foot to the floor, and a tank that never empties.
God speed old friend. And chuck a firecracker out the window for me. Brian Parsons
