Larry Gene Mankey, 77, of Robinson passed away Friday, August 23, 2019. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 29th at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1601 S. Robinson Dr., Robinson, with Pastor Jim Daniels officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen at 2:00 PM on Thursday.

Larry was born June 2, 1942 in Lancaster Township to Earl and Ruth Mankey, natives of Indiana. He grew up on a farm with three sisters, Lennda, Donna, and Betty, along with one brother, John. Larry enjoyed milking the cows and drinking fresh milk, as well as working on tractors. He loved his family and his country. A short time after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army as a diesel mechanic. Larry retired honorably as a First Sergeant after 22 ½ years of service out of Fort Hood. He quickly landed a job at Texas Kenworth, working until his retirement at 72 years old. Larry also owned a land clearing business, Mankey Mowing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Mankey.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jeannie; his two sons, Brian Mankey, Larry Mankey and wife Erica; grandson, Xavier Mankey, who is a German Tax Inspector; he is also survived by the mother of his children, Leyda Mankey; his three sisters and one brother; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was surrounded by a beautiful Christian community at Cornerstone Baptist that has helped and supported his walk in love. The family would like to say a special thank you to Anthony and Tracy. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

So sorry to hear about Larry's passing. I was a classmate of his for 12 years. We graduated fro Lancaster central high school in 1961. I was glad to meet up with him several years ago when he attended one of our class reunions. We were able to spend a little time catching up each others lives. Thanks for his service from a fellow Army vet. Joe Ayers
