Margarette was born to Luther and Bessie Erwin on June 22, 1919. She grew up on a farm with her sister and three brothers. She worked as a seamstress and supervisor at J.M. Woods and later Gensco. She finished her career at Big J’s. She married James Odis Guthrie on November 7, 1935. She once said, “I knew I loved him when I could look and see that white shirt walking down that sandy road.” They had four children together. A great love of Margarette’s was her children and grandchildren. They were all perfect in her eyes.
Her service to the Lord was prominent in her life. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Robinson. She loved helping in the kitchen at church for Golden Age, funerals, and Vacation Bible School. She faithfully attended her Sunday school and church.
Margarette loved to cook, quilt, and sew. The whole family loved her “Mammaw and spring meringue” cookies, and we all have quilts that she made by hand.
She will be missed greatly and will be in our hearts forever. Her spirit and tenacity will live on through her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Bessie Erwin; husband, James O. Guthrie; son, Bobby Guthrie; daughter, Linda Dodwell; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
