Obituary for Virginia Winford (Matthews)

Virginia Winford (Matthews)
Virginia Ruth Winford passed away Tuesday morning, September 5, 2017, at the age of 93. Graveside service and interment will be 9:00 AM, Mon., Sept. 11, 2017, at Rosemound Cemetery with Chaplain Larry Holden officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 5 PM Sun. Sept. 10, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Mrs. Winford was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Littley Washington and Oma Arty (Pate) Matthews where she was a 1942 graduate of Paschal High School. On Sept. 7, 1943, she married Billy George Winford in Ennis, Texas. After fifteen years of marriage, he preceded her in death Sept. 4, 1959.
Throughout her life she enjoyed various types of arts and crafts, cooking and baking for her family and friends. For thirty-five years, she was employed by Graham Embroidery as a graphic artist in Waco until 1989. Being employed by Ambers for several years, she worked at Hobby Lobby until age 77. Her motto was “everything looks better with glitter on it!”
Over the years, Virginia was a surrogate mother and grandmother to so many. She had so much love to give until the very end. Her new family at The Brazos of Waco meant so much to her and she was so grateful for their love, care and support.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Littley Webster Matthews; and a sister, Delpha Mae Matthews.
Survivors include a son, Littley L. Winford and wife Cecilia; two daughters, Peggy Hoge, and Carroll Moss; two sisters, Martha Orand, and Faye Briggs; six grandchildren, Christine Elizondo, Randy Elizondo, Sylvia Elizondo, Scott Moss, Shannon Hoge and Chris Moss; and fifteen great- grandchildren.
